10 reasons to fly from Teesside

Posted in: Blog

Published on: 23rd June 2021

Whilst the world slowly starts to open up and travel becomes a possibility again, we wanted to give you just 10 great reasons why you should fly from Teesside for your next getaway.

1. We are easy to get to

Located just 6 miles outside of Darlington means that the airport is right on the doorstep of a major transport hub. There are easy rail connections to and from Darlington Train Station, major roads such as the A1(M), A66 and A19 are close by or you can catch a bus with public transport links available across the Tees Valley.

2. We’re the only regional UK airport with a cutting-edge 3D baggage scanner

Following our multimillion-pound refurbishment, big improvements have been made to the check-in and security process, meaning you will be through to departures quicker, ready to enjoy a pre-flight drink, meal or a spot of holiday shopping.

The installation of a new, cutting-edge 3D baggage scanner means you don’t have separate liquids or remove electricals from your bag, making departures smoother and easier than ever! Plus Teesside is the only regional airport in the UK to have one.

3. You can browse products from local Tees Valley businesses pre-flight

From stylish watches to holiday essentials, all from local Tees Valley businesses, you can buy from brilliant independent businesses that are close to home before jetting off to further shores.

You can find out more about the local businesses we have on board here.

4. Enjoy a drink in a bar named by you

The Goosepool, which was named by the public after an open competition earlier this year, is the place to be for that pre-holiday beverage. The slick design offers the ideal place to relax and enjoy a selection of spirits, wine and beer pre-departure. The Transporter Bar & Kitchen has also had a revamp and provides a relaxed, open space to enjoy a few drinks or a bite to eat ahead of your flight.

5. You can relax in five-star luxury with Rockliffe Hall

The luxurious five-star hotel resort Rockliffe Hall brings its five-star service airside at Teesside with a lounge that is more than a little special. Treat yourself and relax ahead of your holiday with a glass of champagne (or two), a delicious menu of breakfast and lunch options cooked fresh onsite and served to your table, plus some amazing views of the runway.

The Rockliffe Hall lounge will be opening soon. Our other executive lounge The Middleton is available to book now.

6. You can fly to all these destinations

7. You’ll be supporting your local airport

You won’t just get that holiday feeling when flying from Teesside, you’ll get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside because you’ll be supporting a local airport. So swap the factor 50 for the feel good factor, forget the big guys and fly from a small, local airport.

8. The passenger facility fee is no more

We know you all hated that Passenger Facility Fee, we did too! So we are very happy that it has been scrapped from June 2021.

But don’t worry, if you have contributed to it recently then you can see that your money has gone towards the investment and development of the airport terminal, providing passengers with a new fit for purpose airport they can be proud of.

9. You can check out the refurbishment for yourself!

Whether you have flown from Teesside before or not, we know that you will be impressed by its fancy new look.

Previous passengers won’t recognise it with changes to the check-in areas, security, and a complete overhaul of departures with new Duty Free, bars, shops and two executive lounges.

We’d love to know what you think too. Give us your feedback on FacebookTwitter or LinkedIn

10. Car parking is right outside

There is no need for a bus transfer from your car at Teesside. The advantage of being a small (but perfectly formed) airport means that our car park is right outside the entrance, meaning that everyone feels like they’ve got a best parking spot!

Grab your cases and take a short stroll into the terminal building, and you’ll be checked in and flying off on holiday before you know it, and on the way back you’ll be through arrivals and on your way home in no time.

The record for getting from car to check-in is currently six minutes, can you beat that?
