Passengers looking to take off from Teesside for summer sun now have even more options as airline TUI has unveiled a second weekly connection to Palma.

During the 2022 season, the UK’s number one holiday company returned to the Majorca airport from Teesside for the first time since 2013, operating a Tuesday service to and from the island – famed for its golden sands, waterfront villages and exciting nightlife.

Now, thanks to its popularity, the firm is adding a second link, starting on Saturday 27 May, and running until 28 October to add to those taking off each Tuesday, from 9 May until 31 October.

This doubling in capacity will give people more flexibility on their stays – with holidays of three, four, seven, ten, 11 or 14 nights all now available via Teesside thanks to the connection.

This also gives people flying from Teesside more options for the four Marella Cruises sailing itineraries, including Coastal Gems, Treasures of the Mediterranean, Discover Iberia and Mediterranean Medley, all on Marella Discovery 2.

TUI will also be introducing a second route to Antalya, in Turkey, for the 2023 season. Turkey is on track to welcome a record 3million UK visitors this year – beating the previous record set in 2019.  This second Antalya link will fly every Thursday from 25 May to 21 September.

The good news for the airport comes hot on the back of KLM restarting its popular 6am service from Teesside to Amsterdam Schiphol – opening up connections to more than 160 worldwide destinations.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “This summer’s flights went down a storm – with local people coming out in their droves to take advantage of TUI’s flights from Teesside. Their support has paid off with TUI not only introducing its new Antalya route but committing to this second route to Palma, too.

“This means there’s even more flexibility for people wanting longer or shorter breaks, and represents yet another vote of confidence in our fantastic airport. People across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool – as well as those from further afield – helped give our airport a great 2022. This second link to Palma will make next year’s summer season an even bigger success.”
