Teesside International Airport and Balkan Holidays have welcomed more than 50 travel agents from across the North East to showcase the exciting opportunities available at the airport.
Guests were given a tour of the airport’s facilities, ahead of presentations by Teesside International Airport and Balkan Holidays, the leading specialist for beach breaks to Bulgaria. These highlighted the positive work taking place to drive the airport forward, as well as the success of Balkan Holidays’ partnership with the airport, in providing the first holiday flights for five years.
By popular demand, Balkan Holidays will resume its holiday charter flights from Teesside International Airport once a week during summer 2020 to Bourgas, Bulgaria, ‘the world’s best value holiday destination’, as voted for in a 2019 Post Office Survey.
Thanks to the continual support of travel agents, as well as the airport’s international destinations and increasing air links, sales for both Balkan Holidays and Teesside International Airport were up 17% year on year.
Teesside International was also rebranded from Durham Tees Valley Airport earlier this year, owing to its global ambitions and worldwide links.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “This is the second time we’ve welcomed travel agents to our airport, demonstrating the huge level of interest in our ambitious ten-year scheme to make the airport better than ever before.
“We’ve had fantastic feedback from these sessions, and they have been invaluable in turning the spotlight on the work we’ve done so far – from the rebrand to securing new routes such as Balkan Holidays’ brilliant flights. “More and more people are learning of the huge scale and opportunities here, and we’ll continue to show businesses locally, nationally and internationally what we have to offer.”
Louise Newton, Balkan Holidays’ Regional Sales Manager said: “It was brilliant to see more than 50 local travel agents join us at Teesside International Airport last week. Many agents hadn’t had the airport tour before, and it was helpful to do that to show how convenient and comfortable it is. Dawson & Sanderson agency in Redcar went home with a £200-win, half as a marketing fund to promote Balkan Holidays from Teesside International Airport, and half for a spa day at Seaham Hall. We thank everyone who attended, and hope it was fun and informative.”
