Christmas cheer is clear to see in all those who attended the One Voice Darlington’s Drive-In Carol concert, held at Teesside International Airport.
A total of 340 cars packed with families feeling festive turned out to Sunday’s two events, organised by Reverends Vicky and Barry Thompson from Darlington Baptist Church.
Over the summer a number of similar concerts had been held at Mowden Park however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, their space was now being used by the NHS. Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen stepped in to offer the airport as a location for these festive events.
Mayor Houchen: “Sunday’s drive-in carols concerts were a fantastic success and it was brilliant to see so many people getting into the Christmas spirit and having a sing-song.
“This has been a difficult year for everyone as we have been unable to do many of the things we normally enjoy, especially at this time of the year, so I am pleased to have been able to offer up Teesside Airport to help this brilliant event go ahead.
“Even though it has been huge fun and everyone had a great time, I think we all hope we can get back to normal carol singing and Christmas events next year.”
