Summer Season In Full Swing As Corfu Flights Take Off

Teesside Airport’s 2023 summer season is now flying high after the launch of its final route – the Greek island of Corfu.

The packed flight took off on Saturday 3 June, marking the start of the full slate of holiday flights.

Passengers have been jetting off to holiday hotspots thanks to airline Ryanair, which runs year-round flights to Alicante, alongside Faro in Portugal and Majorca, with Corfu their last destination to take off.

TUI – one of the UK’s biggest holiday companies – has also expanded its offering from Teesside this year, with twice-weekly flights to Majorca thanks to the popularity of the route last year. It is also offering a service to Antalya, Turkey, ahead of introducing flights to the country’s popular Dalaman destination in 2024.

Balkan Holidays is also operating its service to Bourgas, Bulgaria, and holidaymakers are going further afield easier than ever with KLM’s three-times daily service to Amsterdam Schiphol, serving 200 onward global destinations.

Teesside was named the UK’s second most punctual airport in 2022, with delays of just 11 minutes and nearly half of all flights taking off early. This was despite seeing the highest passenger numbers since 2011, with more than 173,000 people passing through the terminal.

Passengers have recently taken to social media praising the airport for being “stress free”, the “excellent customer service”, a “great start to the holiday” with one commenter even branding it “the most pleasurable airport I have ever experienced”.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “With the 2023 season now entirely up and running, we’re continuing to welcome our all-important holidaymakers through the terminal to give them the best possible start to their summer breaks. Corfu was very popular last year and passengers are just as excited this summer.

“We had the best holiday period for years in 2022 and I’m sure, thanks to extra flights to Majorca and thanks to scrapping the 100ml liquid limit in security, we’ll have just as great a year now.

“We’re not resting on our laurels, though, and we’re continuing our talks with established airline partners and potential new ones to secure even more routes local people are crying out for. This is all the while ensuring the airport goes from strength to strength by working to welcome new businesses on-site, help expand existing firms and boost our new cargo facility.”
