2nd July, Durham Tees Valley Airport: Ramsdens, the popular value retail and financial services brand, announces that it will open its first ever airport store at Durham Tees Valley Airport. Located near the check-in desks, the new store will offer passengers and customers alike, high-street value exchange rates on a wide range of currencies, including Euros and Dollars that are always commission free.
Attracting high-profile, successful businesses like Ramsdens to provide services to passengers is part of the Tees Valley Mayor’s 10-year rescue plan for Durham Tees Valley Airport. The decision by Ramsdens to open up a store in the airport follows the first holiday flights for five years which took off from the airport in May. Balkan Holidays, the leading specialist for beach breaks to Bulgaria, introduced a full programme of summer holiday charter flights and Ramsdens will offer a great rate on Bulgarian Lev for those making the most of the new route.
The new store, which will also offer a selection of great value new and preowned jewellery, is expected to open later this year and will create approximately five new jobs.
Established in 1987 in Stockton-on-Tees, Ramsdens has served more than 800,000 customers across its 158 branches over the past financial year. The company has built a strong reputation for offering great value on everyday products and services, from new and pre-owned jewellery and watches to foreign currency.

For the first time, we will be offering our leading high street rates at the airport. We are bought into what Ben is trying to do with the airport and really excited at being involved at the early stages of Durham Tees Valley Airport’s rejuvenation.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “No airport is complete without a currency exchange, so I’m delighted to welcome local brand Ramsdens to its new home in our terminal.
“This is the first business we have managed to land in the terminal since I brought our local airport back into public ownership. Ramsdens has seen the appetite our residents have to fly from their local airport, thanks to the great uptake of the recent Bulgaria flights – and their commitment to a full summer programme next year too.
“We may be in the early days of our 10 Year Rescue Plan to turn our airport around, but this is another step forward to improve the passenger experience for our holidaymakers and business travellers.”
