Construction on Teesside Airport’s new viewing platform, bar and office space is ramping up, with ten local businesses working hard on the next phase of its transformation new pictures have today (9 March) revealed.
Around 50 workers are currently on-site driving forward the development that will see a new Sky Bar and public viewing platform be created landside within the terminal, as the ageing office space is transformed to give passengers and public alike the chance to see, in comfort and style, flights arriving and departing at Teesside. The old disused and dilapidated buffet restaurant area is also being brought back to life as a business suite.
Work is being carried out by Darlington-based 186 Property Solutions, Wharton Construction, GRP Demolition, ADL Developments, Harvey Electrical Services, Parsec engineers and Eton Environmental Group, along with Middlesbrough’s Sweeting Roofing and Stockton’s Ambient, which is providing heating and ventilation systems.
The development has been designed by Corstorphine & Wright, the architects responsible for the initial terminal transformation along with many of the other firms now on site. Completion of the Sky Bar and viewing platform is set to be in May.
The overhaul is under way as Teesside Airport begins to capitalise further on its land and property assets, with plans for its £200million southside business park unveiled just weeks ago as construction of a new road to connect it with the A67 began.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “2022 is our year of construction at Teesworks and right across the region – and that’s no different at Teesside Airport. As well as developing a top-quality business park to attract even more investment and jobs to the site as part of the Teesside Freeport, we’re continuing to revamp the terminal building, bring previously closed-off areas back into use.
“A brand new landside Sky Bar and viewing platform that local people can visit without having to pass through security will make the airport a destination in and of itself once again and we’re creating top-quality office space for both the airport itself and future tenants.
“The new office space will temporarily become home to the Combined Authority before we look to move to Darlington in the long-term. Our further developments will help futureproof the airport by creating more income streams as well as attracting businesses that are creating good-quality, well-paid jobs right across the region.”
Our car parking is situated directly opposite the terminal building and is closer and safer than parking anywhere else to access the airport.
