The position reports directly to the ATC Unit Manager, with coaching, guidance and support from the Duty Air Traffic Control Officer. Working a shift roster around the flexible airport operational hours, you will be assisting both radar and tower controllers in the safe execution of their duties. While acting as a point of contact for the Air Traffic Control tower, the role encompasses processing of aeronautical information including, NOTAMS, SNOWTAMS, Flight Planning and Aviation Weather data.

· A good standard of education (5 GCSE of grade C/4 or above, or equivalent) is essential and possession of ‘A’ levels or higher qualifications would be advantageous;

· An aviation related qualification could be an advantage.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for all telephone enquiries both in VCR & Radar.
  • Manage and distribute all flight plan information and assist the local operators to file flight plans as and when required.
  • Co-ordinate Flow Control information and negotiate slot extensions as required.
  • Liaise with Scottish ACC regarding airways joining clearances and inbound estimates. Liaise with EGNT, EGXE and other agencies regarding traffic information and transit traffic.
  • Make half-hourly meteorological observations and “Special” observations when required, enter information into MET/ATIS Information System and disseminate to outside agencies.
  • Liaise with other assistants, controllers and Airport sections regarding inbound flights, estimates, slots and issues with fpls and stand allocation.
  • Assist the Air Traffic Control Unit Manager or Controllers with the format and issue of ATC messages including NOTAMS, SNOWTAMS.
  • Assist operational controllers especially during incidents and emergencies by notifying all agencies concerned.
  • Input aircraft details into the Airport 20/20 (or equivalent) system for statistics and accounting purposes and correct anomalies with system on a continual basis.
  • Liaise with ATCO i/c and carry out the necessary LVP procedures including recording of RVRs as required.
  • Carry out the following secondary duties when directed by the unit management:
  • a) Prepare ATCA Watch Roster.
  • b) Provide on the job training for ATCAs and ATCOs in accordance with the Unit Training Plan.
