A packed Teesside Airport terminal has marked the start of the summer season.
Hundreds of buzzing holidaymakers heading to Faro, Alicante and Malaga chose Teesside for “Take off Tuesday” (31 March) – as the 2026 summer got off to a flying start.
Ryanair’s service to the Algarve started up this week – and will run twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays until late October.
A bumper FOUR flights a week to Alicante on the airline will also head off from Teesside all summer, departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Ryanair Palma flights begin again tomorrow (1 April) on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with Malaga trips through the summer on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
First-time visitors Ann and Dawn Kelly travelled up from Barnsley to head to Faro from Teesside.
Ann said: “It’s been amazing – just coming through has been so quick.
“At other airports, you might walk miles to get to your gate. This is fabulous – and we’ll use it again.”
Meanwhile, TUI also offer a Teesside to Majorca route through the summer which links seamlessly with Marella cruises available to book as a package holiday this year and in 2027.
Teesside will also host Mavi Gok Airlines (MGA) on a new route to Antalya, in Turkey, from July until October every Wednesday – bookable as a package holiday with your travel agent.
Phil Forster, Managing Director of Teesside Airport, said: “Days like today show exactly what this airport is all about – a packed terminal, a real buzz, and people choosing to start their holidays right here at Teesside.
“I want to say a thank you to our team, our partners and everyone working hard behind the scenes to make our summer season happen.
“I’d also offer a huge thank you to our passengers for choosing us.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard to secure more flights, more destinations and more choice.
“We are building a thriving airport to create jobs, attract investment and give people even more reasons to fly with us. We’re working very hard to attract more routes this year and beyond.”
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen added: “It’s brilliant to see families and holidaymakers backing their local airport.
“We promised a growing airport, more flights and thousands of people once again walking through the doors of Teesside – and it’s great to see this happening.
“We’ve fought hard to bring routes like these back, and we’re not stopping.
“More destinations, more opportunities and more jobs are being created – so continue to back your airport.”
Ryanair now fly to Alicante and Malaga all-year-round from Teesside as well as offering summer trips to Faro, Majorca and Corfu, with the Greek-isle service starting on Tuesdays in June.
KLM’s longstanding Amsterdam route also continues – offering daily worldwide links via Schiphol.
