Staff Opening Doors for Thousands of Passengers at Teesside Jet Off to Spain

The team keeping Teesside Airport’s automatic doors open for tens of thousands of passengers has flown for a well-earned break to Spain.

Teesside-based Azul Door Services has worked with the airport for the last eight years, replacing all the terminal automatic doors and was also heavily involved with a 2021 refit – which its eight-strong team continues to maintain.

The family-owned firm flies all its staff on a long weekend holiday every year to thank them.

And the team chose Teesside Airport this summer – flying out to Alicante this week.

Darren and Vicki Hewitt founded Azul Door Services 11 years ago.

Vicki said: “We have always taken our engineers away for an all expenses paid weekend since we started as a way of thanking them for all their hard work and commitment.

“For the last four years we’ve flown to Gibraltar from Manchester, but this year the flight times made it possible to finally fly all the staff out of the airport we are all so proud to support.

“The airport project remains one of our favourites, and it’s something we speak about frequently. We are very proud of our work here.”

“It’s good to see the doors in good working order – and use them as thousands of others do!”

Teesside’s summer programme of flights will continue into October – with flights available to Malaga, Corfu, Alicante, Majorca, Faro, Amsterdam, Jersey and Guernsey.
