Exciting developments at Teesside Airport are to feature at one of the world’s biggest aviation shows for the first time.

The international airport will make its debut at Farnborough Airshow this week with a stand featuring the airport’s business park developments, new technology pioneered at Teesside, and the airport’s Freeport ambitions on show.

It will put Teesside in the shop window of some of the biggest names in the aviation industry.

Brought back into public hands in 2019, Teesside Airport has seen investment in its land and assets to create a £200million Business Park on 5.2million sq ft of land.

These all benefit from airside access if required – with the advantages of being based within the Teesside Freeport, where customs benefits can be reaped.

Companies already taking advantage of the wider airport site include FedEx, Willis and Draken.

Airport Managing Director Phil Forster will attend Farnborough with other leaders during the week-long airshow – which features some of the largest and most successful events in the industry.

He said: “We’ve got some great projects underway and coming at Teesside – and Farnborough provides a fantastic opportunity to let more of the industry know about the progress we’ve made and the opportunities we have.

“We’re of the newest Border Control Posts in the country and our cargo operation means we’re perfectly placed in the heart of Britain for distribution.

“Our Business Park is growing and we’ve put the building blocks in place to welcome more firms to our site to reap the benefits of our customs zone.

“We hope our stand at Farnborough will put us firmly on the map and I’d urge those attending to come and see us.”

Linked by the A1(M) and A66 nearby, and the East Coast Mainline in Darlington, the Airport’s Business Park is looking to take advantage of its road and rail links as well as its air connections.

The airport is also welcoming global aircraft painting firm Airbourne Colours this year – with Teesside International developing 27,000 sq ft hangar to help it deliver work for airlines such as EasyJet, Jet2, Loganair, TUI and others.

This summer saw FedEx, the world’s largest transportation company, begin a five-year deal for an airfreight handling facility to meet growing demand – with eight additional inbound and outbound flights a week.

The airport is also home to a pioneering multi-million-pound 5G digital zone to break down barriers to trade. The 5G Digital Test Bed will ease practical problems which can hamper operators in customs zones and deliver a frictionless trade – with a testing zone on a private 5G network covering a stretch of the airport’s north side.

Guy Gilfillan, of Colliers, who are marketing Teesside International Airport’s real estate offer alongside Aviation Real Estate Advisors (AREA), said: “Teesside International Airport is particularly suited to the needs of occupiers from the logistics, advanced manufacturing, low carbon energy, aviation and defence sectors amongst others.

“It has the ability to provide much needed employment space for domestic and international companies setting up new operations or relocating from elsewhere. Its unique offer combines scale (the site can accommodate over 3million square feet of development), it is highly accessible/well connected, and can provide airside access for companies importing and/or exporting products by air.

“Development plots are available on long leases or buildings can be constructed to meet occupiers’ specific requirements. TIA has already demonstrated its market appeal given the number of international businesses already represented on site.”
