Teesside International Airport is seeking a committed and professional Airport Firefighter to join our on-site Fire Service team. This role is critical in ensuring the safety of passengers, staff, and infrastructure by responding to incidents and maintaining fire safety standards in line with aviation regulations.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide instantaneous response to reported incidents at Teesside International Airport and surrounding areas.
Deploy at the scene of incidents and take action commensurate with training and in accordance with procedures to preserve life and minimise damage to property.
Take all necessary action to ensure the safety of those involved in any incident and minimising any further risk people may face (including the administering of first aid) and damage to property.
Attend and deploy at fuel spillages taking action as instructed and in accordance with procedure to minimise risk to people and property. Undertake Watch Room duties by operating radio and telecommunication systems and equipment.
Ensure at the scene of fire incidents that information is obtained and preserved.
Comply with statutory, legal and EASA regulations including Fire Service training plans and other relevant training requirements (written and verbal).
Maintain personal discipline to ensure that standards of performance and behaviour are maintained in accordance with Fire Service standards and the policies set out in the Company Handbook.
Familiarise and inform new fire trainees in the procedures, working practices and duties of a Fire Fighter.
Clean, inspect, refuel, test and assist in the maintenance of fire vehicles and equipment.
Assist in runway and taxiway snow clearance duties, including assisting with snow clearance and de-icing duties.
Undertake housekeeping and maintenance duties necessary to ensure the Fire Station and its equipment are clean and safe (e.g. specialised cleaning of toilets, windows, light fittings etc.).
Undertake duties relating to Wildlife Hazard Management as detailed by the Bird Control Coordinator (BCC). To assist with organised visits to the Fire Station. To assist in escorting of vehicles and persons on airfield areas.
Participate in all training as authorised by Officers in charge of the Watch. To assist with special services and unforeseen circumstances when deemed safe and appropriate by the Officer in charge of the Watch.
To assist in protecting the Critical Parts of the Airport in accordance with Airport Security Programme. Support Airfield Operations in a range of tasks including:

2.19.1 Surface / lighting inspections of the runways, taxiways and apron to ensure continued serviceability and safety in line with Statutory requirements, random inspections of equipment on the airfield, the implementation of Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) & Runway Visible Reading Checks as required.

2.19.3 Baggage Handling

2.19.4 FOD Collection

2.19.5 Ground / General Maintenance (Including any Localised Repairs, Grass Cutting, Strimming & Weed Killing)

2.19.6 Mu-Meter Checks & Surveys Any other ad-hoc duties which may occur from time to time and are considered to be within the post holder’s capability, to ensure business continuity. Whilst at work the post-holder will be expected to comply and co-operate with the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and is reminded of the employee’s responsibilities as detailed in Sections 7 & 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

The post holder will:
Take reasonable care of the health and safety of him/herself and other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions at work. Co-operate with the Company management so far as is necessary in order that the Company can carry out its statutory duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc.
Act 1974 and all relevant statutory provisions. Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare. In addition, the post-holder will comply with the more specific requirements contained within the Safety Management System and associated documents. Whilst at work the post-holder will be expected to take into consideration how their individual and collective actions may affect the Airport’s continued compliance with environmental guidance and legislation. Take responsibility for their actions and co-operate with the Airport Management so far as possible to minimise and prevent the potential pollution of the environment. Not to intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse plant equipment, procedures or instructions that may lead to a pollution incident. This job description is an outline of the key tasks and responsibilities of the post and the post holder may be required to undertake additional duties in line with the seniority of the role. The post may change over time to reflect the developing needs of the business, as well as the personal development needs of the post holder. This job description will be subject to regular review and adjustment.

Please be advised that the current shift pattern, working hours, and salary are applicable until 31st January 2026. These terms are subject to review thereafter. Further clarification will be provided during the interview process. This is a 24-hour operational role, and candidates will be expected to work a shift pattern that provides coverage across all hours.
