JOB SUMMARY

1.1

This is a dual function, ‘hands-on’ leadership role with the post holders primary responsibility being the full oversight of the cargo warehouse, by ensuring the safe and compliant processing of all inbound and outbound cargo freight through the airport and cargo facility.

Participate in all applicable warehouse operations and activities, performing a range of functions including loading and unloading vehicles and trailers.

1.3

Support and ensure the airport operation remains compliant with company, airline, and regulatory requirements. Maintain a safe and efficient working environment through airport-wide adherence to all applicable procedures and standards.


2.0 Key Responsibilities

2.1

As Cargo Supervisor, ensure high standards are maintained in line with the Company’s values, behaviours, and leadership expectations.

2.2

Conduct team briefings and handovers at the start and end of each shift.

2.3

Undertake resource planning to maximise efficiency and ensure operational success, including allocating daily tasks to the on-shift team.

2.4

Be accountable to the Head of Security for all relevant compliance matters.

2.5

Working closely with the Cargo Manager, assist in the continuous training, assessment, and development of team members, and maintain training records for Cargo Operatives.

2.6

Complete all daily logs and checks relating to export activity, including:

  • Start-up and testing of X-ray machines and boxes using STP and counter reading function tests.
  • Checking that all CCTV cameras are operational and recordings are retained for 30 days.
  • Inspecting all access doors for serviceability.
  • Checking forklifts, pump trucks, and tools for serviceability.
  • Conducting inventory checks on seals, consumables, packing materials, pallets, and related equipment.
2.7

Supervise the following activities:

  • Loading and unloading vehicles and trailers in a timely manner.
  • Manual handling, including building, netting, and strapping cargo.
  • Cargo X-ray screening.
  • Forklift truck operation and use of other machinery where trained and required.
  • Weighing and labelling cargo for manifests.
  • Booking goods and vehicles in and out of the cargo warehouse.
  • Facilitating access control.
  • Ensuring all cargo staff adhere to company and legislative policies and procedures relating to security and safety.
  • Implementing review and risk assessment processes for SOPs and working practices to identify unsafe practices and opportunities for improvement.
  • Leading accident investigations, reporting, and statistical analysis.
  • Liaising with the Environment and Community Officer to coordinate, predict, and advise on waste disposal from the cargo hangar, including recyclable and hazardous materials.
  • Monitoring and replenishing consumables required for operations, including forklift gas bottles and stationery.
  • Completing all relevant documentation for visitors attending site, including Airside Passes and Airside Vehicle Permits.

Prepare cargo paperwork and customs entries when required, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete before cargo release.

2.9

Ensure housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained at all times and monitor stock control processes.

2.10

Maintain full adherence to all security protocols.

2.11

Maintain full adherence to all Health and Safety policies and procedures while promoting a just culture.

2.12

Demonstrate flexibility in working hours and provide cover for other Shift Leaders when required.

2.13

Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

2.14

Undertake any other ad hoc duties within the capability of the post holder to support business continuity.


2.15 Safety Responsibilities

While at work, the post holder is expected to comply with and support the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and fulfil responsibilities under Sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

2.15.1

Take reasonable care of their own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.

2.15.2

Co-operate with Company management to enable compliance with statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant legislation.

2.15.3

Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare.

2.15.4

Comply with all additional requirements contained within the Safety Management System and associated documentation.


2.16 Environmental Responsibilities

While at work, the post holder must consider how their individual and collective actions impact the Airport Company’s compliance with environmental guidance and legislation.

2.16.1

Take responsibility for their actions and co-operate with Airport Company Management to minimise and prevent environmental pollution.

2.16.2

Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, plant, equipment, procedures, or instructions that could lead to a pollution incident.


3.0 Additional Accountabilities

3.1

Undertake the following activities when required or requested by the Airport Duty Manager:

  • Oversee and assist Teesside International Airport (TIA) Ramp Operations (Ground Handling) for all cargo aircraft at MME.
  • Ensure all required and serviceable ground handling equipment is available, including:
    • Ground Power Unit (GPU)
    • Aircraft steps
    • High loader
    • Pushback tug
