JOB SUMMARY

This is a key operational role responsible for ensuring the safe, secure, and compliant processing of inbound and outbound cargo through the airport cargo facility. The successful candidate will manage customs processes, support freight forwarding operations, and carry out cargo handling activities while maintaining high standards of safety, security, and operational efficiency.

The role also involves participating in a range of warehouse activities, including freight handling, stock movement, and general housekeeping, ensuring the cargo facility operates effectively. In addition, the post holder will support the wider airport operation by ensuring compliance with company policies, airline requirements, customs regulations, and all relevant aviation and regulatory standards.


2.0 Key Responsibilities

2.1

As a Cargo Administrator, ensure high standards are maintained in line with the Company’s values, behaviours, and leadership expectations.

2.2

Perform customs processing for all inbound and outbound cargo through the Regulated Agent (RA) facility.

2.3

Complete accurate records and maintain logs to support audit requirements and regulatory compliance.

2.4

Prepare, complete, and verify customs entries in accordance with HMRC regulations.

2.5

Manage cargo documentation and ensure compliance throughout all stages of the import and export process.

2.6

Handle import and export shipments throughout their customs journey, ensuring all requirements are met.

2.7

Complete all necessary documentation relating to cargo processing, dispatch notes, and associated paperwork.

2.8

Maintain accurate, organised, and audit-ready documentation at all times.

2.9

Ensure all operational documents are completed, filed, and retained in accordance with company procedures.

2.10

Liaise with airlines, customers, freight forwarders, customs agents, and other key stakeholders to facilitate efficient cargo operations.

2.11

Resolve shipment issues promptly, professionally, and in accordance with operational procedures.

2.12

Maintain full adherence to all security and customs protocols.

2.13

Maintain full adherence to all Health and Safety policies and procedures while promoting a positive and proactive “Just Culture”.

2.14

Demonstrate flexibility in working hours and provide cover for other members of the cargo team when required.

2.15

Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external customers.

2.16

Undertake any additional duties that may arise from time to time and that are within the post holder’s capability, ensuring business continuity.


2.17 Safety Responsibilities

Whilst at work, the post holder is expected to comply with and support the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and fulfil the responsibilities outlined in Sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

2.17.1

Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.

2.17.2

Co-operate with Company management so far as is necessary to enable the Company to fulfil its statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all other relevant legislation.

2.17.3

Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare.

2.17.4

Comply with the more specific requirements contained within the Safety Management System and associated documents.


2.18 Environmental Responsibilities

Whilst at work, the post holder will be expected to consider how their individual and collective actions may affect the Airport Company’s ongoing compliance with environmental guidance and legislation.

2.18.1

Take responsibility for their actions and co-operate with Airport Company Management to minimise and prevent potential environmental pollution.

2.18.2

Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, plant, equipment, procedures, or instructions that could lead to a pollution incident.


3.0 Additional Accountabilities

3.1

The following activities may be undertaken when required, or at the request of the Airport Duty Manager, Cargo Manager, or other Teesside International Airport management personnel:

  • Provide cover for any operational role for which the individual is trained and competent.
  • Assist the Operations Department with tasks as required across the airport.
  • Undertake any additional ad hoc duties that may arise from time to time and are within the post holder’s capability, ensuring business continuity.
